Guide to the results panels
This page explains what each results button does and how to use the different views to interpret and report your enrichment analysis.
Enriched Terms Table
- Complete list of enriched functional terms with statistical support (p-value and FDR).
- Sort by FDR to identify the most significantly enriched functions.
- Click a term to inspect the genes contributing to the enrichment and export the table for reporting or downstream analysis.
Top Enriched Functions
- Bar plot showing the strongest enriched functions based on significance and/or effect size.
- Useful for a quick overview and for generating summary figures for presentations or publications.
Significance vs Proportion
- Compares statistical significance (FDR) against the proportion of genes associated with each term.
- Helps distinguish highly significant but rare functions from broadly represented functional shifts.
KO & Pathways
- Hierarchical view of enriched KEGG Orthologs and pathways.
- Useful for identifying higher-level biological processes and metabolic themes driving the enrichment.
Enrichment Overview
- Global overview summarizing enrichment patterns across functional categories.
- Helps contextualize individual enriched terms within broader functional systems.
Genome-wide Enrichment Landscape
- Displays enrichment results across all tested terms along the genome-wide background.
- Useful for identifying dominant functional signals versus a long tail of weak or sparse enrichments.
Hub Genes × Functional Terms
- Matrix view linking genes to multiple enriched functional terms.
- Highlights hub genes that contribute to many functions and may represent key regulators or multifunctional proteins.
Gene–Term Flow Diagram
- Visualizes how individual genes map to enriched functional terms.
- Useful for explaining which genes drive specific functional enrichments and genes participating in several processes.
Functional Term Connectivity
- Network view where functional terms are connected based on shared genes.
- Helps identify clusters of related functions and co-occurring biological processes.
Quality Control Diagnostics
- Provides diagnostics on annotation coverage and gene–term mapping.
- Useful for assessing how well a genome, MAG, or metagenome is annotated.
- Helps identify cases where sparse enrichment results are driven by poor annotation quality, missing gene IDs, or low functional coverage rather than true biological absence.
